OUR HISTORY

Built in the reign of Charles II by the Earl of Southampton in 1661, Bloomsbury Square is on one of London's oldest garden squares. Many of the rooms at the Georgian building of 12 Bloomsbury Square are named after those in the famous 'Bloomsbury Set', including Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, E. M. Forster and Lytton Strachey. The Bloomsbury Group - or Bloomsbury Set - was a group of associated English writers, intellectuals, philosophers and artists in the first half of the 20th century who worked or studied together near the Bloomsbury area of London. Latterly, Nikolaus Pevsner housed his library at 12 Bloomsbury Square in a paneled room which is now available to hire.
